The latest Copa America starlet is Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United target Javier Pastore…

Despite a £44million price tag, Palermo playmaker Javier Pastore has continued to court interest from Europe’s elite clubs.

The 22-year-old midfielder is currently on international duty at the Copa America with Argentina and his club president Maurizio Zamparini, claims Real Madrid, Malaga, Chelsea, Manchester United and their neighbours City are fighting for his signature.

Zamparini said: “He will go to England or Spain, but I’d exclude Barcelona because they already have Andres Iniesta and Xavi in that position.

“The favourites are Real Madrid and Malaga. Manchester City are also interested in him, as well as Manchester United and Chelsea.

“I’m sorry to let him go, because he is the only world-beater that I have had at the club as president.”

The Palermo chief also set a deadline for the interested parties to wrap up a deal.

He added: “We must solve it within 15 days, before the end of the Copa America, otherwise Pastore stays with us.

“However, there’s a 90 per cent chance that he’ll go away, because it is his desire. That is normal when you know that certain clubs want you.”

Pastore has been described as the new Kaka and although he is Argentinian he shares a similar style to the Brazilian midfielder. Both are lanky, powerful runners with slick passing and the eye for goal.

Last season was certainly Pastore’s emergence as a world class player although he was selected for last year’s World Cup he raised his level last season.

He scored 14 goals in all competitions and was Palermo’s top scorer as the Rosanero finished a lofty eighth in Serie A. He also scored for Argentina in a friendly against Xavi’s Catalonia team.

Pastore wasn’t involved in Argentina’s first Copa America game mainly due to the attacking talent Sergio Batista has at his dispoal but after a poor draw don’t be surprised if he adds to his eight caps for La Albiceleste.
